Poha

If you are an Indian, you should be having an idea about chivda/poha ! This dish if filling, will not make you feel hungry and at the same time, gives you a light feel..If you are just a beginner at cooking, may be you should give this a try 🙂

You’ll need :

1 cup poha/chivda/flattened rice

1 tsp oil

A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

1 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 cup onions-chopped fine

8-10 curry leaves

2-3 whole red chillies

1/4 cup groundnuts

1/2 cup potatoes-diced small (partly boiled)

1/2 cup cauliflower – diced small (partly boiled)

1/4 cup green peas

1/2 tsp turmeric

2 tsp salt or to taste

1 tsp green chillies-finely chopped or to taste

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

1 -2 lemon cut as wedges

How to prepare???

1. Wash poha , not letting it soak too long in the water. You can wash it in a colander if you have one..leave in the colander to drain out completely.

2. Heat the oil and add the groundnuts,asafoetida, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies onions and the whole red chillies.

3. When onions are light brown, add potatoes, cauliflower,peas and turn around for a few minutes till the vegetables are nicely cooked.

4. Add the turmeric and sauté over low heat.

5. Increase the heat, add salt and poha and mix well. Saute till mixed and heated through.

6. Shut off the heat, mix in lemon juice and sprinkle coriander.

Serve it along with lemon wedges and lay’s chips 🙂
